its so cliche at this time of year but everyone’s talking about it and thinking about it. wanting to be better than last year. wanting to try new things and get rid of bad habits. hoping that 2017 will magically manifest everything good in your life. but; like all, or most resolutions, these ideals fade by Valentine’s day when you’re about to eat your 5th chocolate from that heart shaped box or eat one more BE MINE chalky candy. am i right?! then you throw up your hands in the air, say that you “tried”, and move on…until January 1, 2018.
but in all honesty, it doesn’t have to be like that. instead of focusing on a cabbage soup diet for the next week, why not focus on things that you can control. things like kindness, paying it forward, buying tea for a co-worker or a making a special dinner for your spouse. this year: those are my goals. to do more little acts of kindness than big gestures. to be generous, not with just my time but also my “things”. to find beauty in the everyday. to be patient with my toddler as he once again empties my clothes drawer or chucks his food across the kitchen. (faceplant).
and yes, about the whole healthy eating thing… I really try to just eat whole foods, because whole foods don’t require ingredients, they are the ingredients. you can pronounce them, so that will do your body a whole lot of good. and balance! and yoga (or whatever you love to do)…and maybe some exercise. you don’t have to drink green smoothies everyday to be healthy, BUT…it will make you feel good and that’s a bonus! its time to stop the negative self talk that we do to ourselves every year, wanting to be better, prettier, healthier and stronger. you are the best you can be, and you are strong!
a kindness revolution…now that might be something we can actually keep this year!
and..just because I love you, here’s the recipe to one of my favourite smoothies of all time. it’s packed with healthy fats, protein and gives you a nice sustained energy boost, perfect for those busy mornings on the run.
Healthy Almond Butter Smoothie:
1-2 ripe or frozen bananas, peeled
1 1/2 cups of greens (i usually use spinach)
2 cups unsweetened almond milk
1/2 ripe avocado
2 heaping teaspoons of almond butter or organic peanut butter
3-4 tablespoons cacao or unsweetened cocoa powder
optional add ins: chia seeds, maca powder, lucuma powder, bee pollen etc.
Blend and serve. it’s so delicious!!
